“Service Above Self”

Rotary is a service organization of business and community leaders united worldwide.  Rotarians are making a positive impact in our local and global communities.

The Object of Rotary

The Object of Rotary is to encourage and foster the ideal of service as a basis of worthy enterprise and, in particular, to encourage and foster:

  • FIRST: The development of acquaintance as an opportunity for service;
  • SECOND: High ethical standards in business and professions; the recognition of the worthiness of all useful occupations; and the dignifying of each Rotarian’s occupation as an opportunity to serve society;
  • THIRD: The application of the ideal of service in each Rotarian’s personal, business, and community life;
  • FOURTH: The advancement of international understanding, goodwill, and peace through a world fellowship of business and professional persons united in the ideal of service.

The Four-Way Test

The Four-Way Test is a nonpartisan and nonsectarian ethical guide for Rotarians to use for their personal and professional relationships. The test has been translated into more than 100 languages, and Rotarians recite it at club meetings:

Of the things we think, say or do:

  1. Is it the TRUTH?
  2. Is it FAIR to all concerned?
  4. Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?

Community Engagement

TAPS at Twilight

TAPS is a major local community event arranged by the St. Simons Rotary Club to honor the men and women who have fallen in the service of our country, those who have valiantly served and returned, and those who are serving today. The tribute was begun in 1991 as an annual observance of Memorial Day.  To watch the virtual Taps from 2020, please click here.

Rotary Scholarship Fund

The scholarship awards vary in number and size each year.  The club typically awards scholarships of $3000 per year for 4 years of undergraduate study ($1500 for each of the fall and spring semesters).

  The College or University may be located in or outside the state of Georgia, and must be fully accredited.  Recipients are selected on the basis of scholarship, leadership, community service and other demonstration of personal character, as well as financial need.

Reading Rockets

After months of inactivity due to the pandemic, Reading Rockets is finally taking off again!  Reading Rockets will collaborate with Glynn County Schools to videotape Reading Rockets volunteers reading selected books for the children. Once recorded, the videos are uploaded to Google Classroom and to the SSI Rotary Reading Rockets YouTube Channel. This project will build an archive of auditory reading resources accessible to all of the pre-K, kindergarten and first grade teachers, as well children and their parents far and wide.

Volunteers can sign up to read on the Friday morning of their choice between 9 and 11 at Risley Annex on Albany Street in Brunswick.  The Glynn County Schools Instructional Technology specialist will operate the computer and the camera.

Reading Rockets volunteers should contact Linda Muir at ltmuirssi[at] for additional information about reserving a 30-minute spot.

RSM Classic - Meet the Pros

This event is held annualy as an opportunity to meet some of the Pros playing in the RSM Classic Golf tournament.  We hold a silent auction in conjunction to raise funds to support our initiatives.

Veteran's Walk Brick Sales

Veteran’s Walk is a brick walkway and memorial in front of the Bandstand at Neptune Park on St. Simons Island. This beautiful, engraved brick walkway reflects the admiration that Rotary and other Americans share for men and women who serve and have served our country through military duty.

By purchasing a brick, you can say a personal “Thank You, I know what you did and I appreciate your service” to loved ones who have served so proudly and bravely. The walkway is for all veterans, not just those who are deceased or who served during war time. Bricks can be purchased as a remembrance or a gift. An Application form is available on the site below.

Proceeds from the sale of engraved bricks for the Walk go toward the local, national and international charitable and scholarship activities of Rotary International.

Bricks are $80.00
